FRANCIS J. SNYDER FOUNDATION – Established 2007

Francis J. Snyder ("Fritz") lived a life defined by faith, family, hard work, and generosity. Raised in central New York, he learned from his parents and grandparents the importance of helping others, appreciating life's blessings, and giving whatever he could to those in need.

Fritz began working at age 18 and spent 44 years as a factory worker. At 28, he married Loretta Ryan, and together they built a loving family of nine children. Their family grew to include 31 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, all rooted in the values of faith, humility, and service.

Fritz and Loretta strongly believed in Catholic education and ensured all of their children attended Catholic schools. Their commitment to helping others extended beyond their own family, including support for a seminarian in Kerala, India, charitable contributions, and countless acts of quiet generosity.

Though he worked a blue-collar job his entire career, Fritz believed every gift mattered. He became known for collecting and redeeming cans and bottles, donating the proceeds to charitable causes. His generosity was never measured by the size of the gift, but by the desire to make a difference.

After the loss of their son Gary in 1979, Fritz and Loretta established a memorial scholarship at St. Mary's School. Years later, inspired by Fritz's lifelong example of giving, his family established the Francis J. Snyder Foundation through the Chester County Community Foundation, creating a lasting way to continue the charitable spirit he embodied.

Fritz passed away in 2013 at the age of 93. His legacy lives on through the Foundation and through the generations he inspired with his example of faith, kindness, humility, and generosity.

Today, the Foundation honors Fritz's belief that a meaningful life is measured not by what one has, but by what one gives.
